Rationale for my Website

One of my first thoughts was that this website will not be used in the future for employers so I chose to make this a more personal website. The reason why I don’t take this opportunity to make a website for my future career is because I expect to work in Portugal, my home country, and besides the language being different, I am choosing to share all my interest because I believe that all of them will be reflected in my work.

The first step I took to create my website was to choose a name. I didn’t want my friends and family to find this website because I never liked to share what I write so I decided that this website won’t have my name in it. Also, I don’t like my own name when pronounced by foreigners so ever since I decided to study in the UK, I found myself a nickname. I chose “Daisy”, which is the translated version of my second name: Margarida. Since all my writing lately have had a sense of loneliness and I am now living alone in a city where I know almost no one, I decided to call my website “Daisy’s Monologues”.

In the Home page of the website, I welcome the viewer to my head, which I think makes sense. Below that, I assume a funny tone, promising to be only a little bit crazy. I believe that this sentence will select the viewers of my website since some people must be looking for a more serious website while my target audience is people who are looking for entertainment and poems that they can enjoy and sympathise with.

I chose my two favourite colours to be the stars of my website: dark yellow and blue.

I consider my Home page’s layout organized and clear. The name is in black, which stands in the yellow background. Right below it, the four pages available in the website at the moment and a short sneak peek below with a white marble background, giving it a modern style. The font of the title gives a sense of fun and elegance and it repeats itself throughout the whole page in every title used, making it concise. I used a more elegant and refined font in the smaller pieces of text which I believe also gives a feminine touch to the website.

In a soft blue background, there is a display of the posts shared so far. Every poem, and all the posts so far have been poems, has a drawing attached to it. I love drawing but I have never had any talent to draw nor do I enjoy to doing it so I try to share someone else’s draw and give them credit for it. In the future, I want to share my own photographs along with each one of my poems. In this Home page, the viewers can also see the title of the post, the name of the author, which is always me, and the day it was published, plus a small statement that has something to do with the post. There’s also an icon that tells the viewers how many views the post has had, a box that allows the viewer to write a comment and the ability to like the post. In there, it will be the five most recent posts at all times.

I also have a Subscribe Form at the end of the Home page so everyone who likes my content can submit their email and receive a notification every time I post.

There’s also the Poems page. In there, viewers can find all the poems shared so far with the same layout and information as in the Home Page. This page is not quite as I wanted it to be but I have yet to figure out how to do it.

One more page is available for now, which is the Coursework page. I will be sharing coursework like this one in this page.

In the About page I created a small text about me with my goals for the future so the viewer can have the sense that they know the author of the page. The font used in the title is the same as before but the rest of the text is in a different fond, a clearer and someway, normal, one. This last fond is also the one used in the posts.

In the future, I would like to add a Reviews page where I would be sharing my feedback on the books I read, movies and Tv shows. This way, I would attract younger people to my website, people with the same interests as me. Since I read about 50 books per year and am currently watching more than 30 Tv shows, this would bring a lot of action and attract people to the website and would also be something easier for me to do since I already do it but don’t share with anyone.

I would also like to create an Instagram account, which I believe is the most used App for people my age, where I could share a piece of my posts, along with the link to the website itself.

All the hyperlinks in this website are working and so I find the website created very easy to use by everyone and also appealing.

The only constraint found in the making of the website is the layout options given which is a problem that I am still trying to solve. Since my blog is not focused on images, I didn’t find any layout that allowed me to share my poems in an appealing way that catches the reader’s eyes without any image attached to it.
